Projects

Eventually Promise Home will house 200 children and have a staff of over 40 people including full time missionaries. We will have over 20 buildings including homes, schools, medical clinic, church, and more. The annual cost for food and electricity alone are enormous. We are creating a self sustaining environment through agriculture and fish programs as well as hydro electric power generation to provide our own electricity.

Self Sustaining Projects:

Tilapia Ponds - These ponds will provide fish for the Orphanage, and for sale into the local and export markets. We have 9 ponds built with land for over 20. Each concrete pond holds 8-10,000 fish which will be harvested twice annually. The potential annual profit per pond is $10,000; at 20 ponds on the land our potential annual profit is $200,000. We are looking for mission teams to raise $5,000 and spend a week building a pond or covering the cost to raise the fish for 6 months.

African Palms - These trees provide palm oil for local companies to produce bio-diesel. Therefore, this was one of our first investments. In the fall of 2008, we planted 2,600 trees, at a cost of $3.85/tree.  We will begin to harvest in 2012 and reach peak harvest in 2014. The potential annual profit is $19.25/tree; $50,000 annually.

Mangosteens - These fruits, high in antioxidants, are sought-after in the U.S. Our land will accommodate 800 fruit trees, 300 of which were planted in the fall of 2008, at a cost of $4.50/tree. The fruit will be ready for harvest in 2017, and will sell for $3.00 to $8.00/fruit.

Hawaiian Rambutans - These fruits are exported to the U.S. We planted 300 trees in the spring of 2009, with land for 1,200 additional. The fruit will be ready to harvest in 2012, and will sell at $5.00/pound. Each pound is approximately 12 to 16 fruits.

Additional Fruit - These fruits are already planted: 400 Plantains, 150 Sweet Little Bananas, 300 Morocas (Purple Bananas), 300 Pineapples, 150 Orange Trees. These fruits will provide food and snacks for the orphanage.

5-10 kilowatt Hydro Generator - This system will pull water from the Toyos River and generate a portion of the power for all of Promise Home. The Toyos River provides enough water to accommodate up to a 10-kilowatt generator, generator costs are $48,500 and higher.

Construction Projects:

Plant Nursery Home - This home was one of the first projects completed during the Summer of 2008. Currently the Nationals who maintain the agriculture program reside here.

Tilapia Overseer & Temporary Team Home - This home is being built summer/fall of 2010. Once completed it will house the overseer of the tilapia ponds and serve as a team home for up to 20 people on short term mission trips.

Director's Home - This home sits above the casitas on the side of the mountain. It is a 3,600 sq. ft, two-story duplex each floor is complete with three bedrooms, an office and storage space. The orphanage directors will reside here.

Casita - Providing a home to the House Parents and up to 20 children, 2,000 sq. ft. The property can accommodate 10 casitas, each with full kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms.

Team Home - As our partnerships with other churches and organizations grow, we will provide housing for short term mission teams. The Team Home will be built at the top of the mountain, overlooking the Sula Valley and Caribbean Sea. Fifty short-term missionaries can stay in this 4,000 sq. ft. home, complete with a commercial-grade kitchen and dining hall, office and storage space.

Security Fence - In 2008, short-term mission teams started building the security fence around the property to protect the areas that will house our missionaries and children. Currently, we have 750-feet completed, of the 5,000-feet needed. The security fence is constructed with a concrete footer, cinder block, chain link, and barbed wire across the top.
